BLACK DYNAMITE (INSPIRED BY 1970s)

The city streets explode into violence when “The Man” kills Black Dynamite’s (Michael Jai White) brother in this seamless spoof recreation of the blaxploitation classics of the 1970s. He was the best agent that the CIA ever had, but these days Black Dynamite only answers to one boss — himself. When “The Man” ices Black Dynamite’s brother, starts pumping heroin into the local orphanage, and floods the ghetto with a secret weapon disguised as common malt liquor, the car chases, gunfights, and shirtless brawls that follow prove wild enough to make even Dolemite green with envy.

Eames Fibreglass shell in the making (1970)

To compliment yesterday’s post about the Eames RAR chair Jason White, an official retro-head, sent a video link to me of the actual process that Herman Millar used to make the shells. The short video was originally made by the Office of Charles Eames for Herman Miller Inc. in 1970. One of my favourite parts of this video is the use of styling clay in the design modelling process that is typically still used today in automotive design studios all over the world on a daily basis. But to get back to Eames; the early parts of the video showing ergonomic testing, drawing and modelling give the impression that so much time, detail and attention went into a typical Eames design. To him designing wasn’t just a flash in the pan. Indeed, Charles was once asked:

Did you think of the Eames chair in a flash?

He replied,

Yes, sort of a 30-year flash.”

Anyway, here is his process in 8:45min… Enjoy!
